SMARTER ABOUT DRUGS: GLOBAL POLITICS

Smarter About Drugs: Global politics is a set of additional teaching resources for use in conjunction with Smarter About Drugs: A conversation pack.

Smarter About Drugs: A conversation pack is designed to help educators and community leaders facilitate intelligent and informed discussions about drug and alcohol use. Uniquely, this national teaching resource encourages evidence-based analysis of the effectiveness of drug strategies, as well as critical thinking about policy development.

The conversation pack has been extensively researched, rigorously vetted by teachers and academics and mapped to the curriculum with the assistance of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER). It can also be used to take school drug safety strategies beyond Personal Development and Health classes, as demonstrated in Smarter About Drugs: Global politics.

Smarter About Drugs: Global politics has been developed by Peter Farrar, the Senior VCE Global Politics & Legal Studies teacher at Star of the Sea College in Melbourne. It uses Smarter About Drugs: A conversation pack as a resource for a unit on Globalisation which he’s called ‘Global threads and drug policy’. He was so pleased with how his students responded that he’s decided to share his support materials, to encourage other teachers and community leaders to use the conversation pack.
