This network is chaired by Paul Barratt, and headed by the Program Leader, Professor Ross Buckley.
The members of the Steering Group for this network are:
Allan Behm, an advisor on strategy and political risk. He served as head of strategy and plans in the Department of Defence, head of the national counter-terrorism arrangements in the Attorney-General's Department, and an advisor to the Fraser Government on defence issues.
Peter Hayes, Professor of International Relations at RMIT and Executive Director of the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainability (www.nautilus.org), a non-governmental policy-oriented research and advocacy group.
John Langmore, Professorial Fellow in Political Science at the University of Melbourne . He was a Director in the United Nations system from 1997 to 2003 after having been a member of the House of Representatives for 12 years representing Fraser in the ACT. Before election to parliament he was, among other things, a lecturer in economics at the University of Papua New Guinea and Economic Advisor to the Australian Treasurer.
Richard Tanter, Adjunct Professor of International Relations at RMIT. From 1989-2003 Richard was Professor of International Relations at Kyoto Seika University in Japan. After returning from Japan in 2003, he has been Senior Curriculum Consultant to Deakin University for its Security Studies graduate program at the Australian Defence College and has particular responsibilities within the Nautilus Institute for the Global Collaborative and Global Problem-Solving project, and is closely involved in the East Asian Science and Security Collaborative.
Elsina Wainwright, Strategy and International Program Director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). Her research interests at ASPI have included the Solomon Islands , East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and Iraq . She has also recently co-authored the Asia analytical paper in the AusAID White Paper process. Before joining ASPI, she was an Associate with McKinsey & Company and a political analyst for the International Crisis Group in Bosnia . She holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in International Relations from Oxford University , where she was a Stipendiary Lecturer in Politics at Oriel College .
Michael Wesley, Director of the Griffith Asia Institute at Griffith University . Prior to taking up this position, he was the Assistant Director-General for Transnational Issues at the Office of National Assessments, and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of New South Wales .
