Ecosystems

Project 2.2

Development of an Ecosystems Services Strategy for Australia

Overview

Ecosystem services are the natural assets such as soil, plants, animals, air and water that are essential for us to obtain clean drinking water and sustenance, to maintain a liveable climate and atmosphere, to meet our cultural needs and to provide options for the future through the maintenance of biodiversity. A critical factor in placing Australia on a more sustainable path is to find ways of integrating ecosystems services into current natural resource management policies and programs. Australia 21 wishes to work with key stakeholders to develop a strategic framework that will achieve this integration across the nation.
