Australia 21 is particularly proud of its capacity to provide a stimulating environment for leading thinkers, researchers and policymakers to interact fearlessly in an atmosphere of trust and respect.
This happens repeatedly in our roundtables and workshops, providing people who would not otherwise get together, with the opportunity to understand new points of view and develop new frameworks for thinking about big problems.
The organization prizes its independence and its ability to draw skills from disciplines and institutions across the nation.
Our recent work has included:
· Preparing a report for the Victorian Government on how it can achieve deep cuts in Victorian emissions of CO2 immediately through a portfolio of carefully evaluated and economically tested options.
· Developing a plan for environmental accreditation of agricultural land that has now become national policy.
· Mapping the gulf between the future young Australians expect and the future they want, and showing that young people need more opportunities to create and work towards new visions for Australia's and the world's future.
· Clarifying the kinds of shocks that we can expect in coming years and developing new ways of buttressing the nation against them.
